KREWSKI, Daniel, Ph.D., MHA
Chief Risk Scientist, CEO

Daniel Krewski is the co-founder, with Greg Paoli, of Risk Sciences International.  He has been associated with the University of Ottawa since 1998, first as a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and currently as the Director of the R. Samuel McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment.  The McLaughlin Centre is a designated Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Population Health Risk Assessment.
Dan previously held a number of senior positions with Health Canada, including his last post as Director, Risk Management, in the former Health Protection Branch.  In recognition of his work in helping to establish the modern discipline of environmental and health risk assessment, he was named to the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Risk Science in 2001, which he holds at the McLaughlin Centre.
Dr. Krewski earned international prominence through contributions to more than 600 scientific papers and 6 books in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, risk assessment, and risk management, and he has served on national and international expert panels convened to address key issues involving public and population health, toxicological risk assessment, chemical and radiation safety, cancer risk assessment, and environmental and foodborne hazards.  He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Society for Risk Analysis, and a lifetime National Affiliate of the US National Academy of Sciences.

PAOLI, Greg, MASc
Principal Risk Scientist, COO

Greg Paoli is the co-founder, with Daniel Krewski, of Risk Sciences International. He has experience in diverse risk domains, including microbiological, toxicological, and nutritional hazards; climate change impact assessment; air and water quality; medical and engineering devices; risks to cultural and museum collections; socio-economic risk assessment; and risk-based priority-setting across multiple hazards.
Greg has recently completed a term as Councilor of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA). He has served as Chair of SRA's Biological Stressors Specialty Group and currently serves on SRA's Internationalization Task Force. He is also currently serving as a provisional member on the Standing Committee on the use of Public Health Data in FSIS Food Safety Programs with the National Academy of Sciences.
Within Canada, Greg serves on Expert and Advisory Committees of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy. He is a member of Health Canada's Expert Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance Risk Assessment. Greg has provided guest lectures on risk management at the Queen's University Public Sector Executive Programme and the School of Public Policy, the University of Calgary's Faculty of Management, the University of Ottawa's Institute of Population Health and the McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment. Greg has also provided lectures as part of the Harvard School of Public Health continuing education course in Probabilistic Risk Assessment.
In addition, Greg has served on several international expert panels including Expert Consultations as part of the Joint Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) Activities on Microbial Risk Assessment. He has provided training in risk assessment approaches across North America, Japan and South America.

STEVENS, Sheldon, CA, CMC
Chief Financial Officer

A Chartered Accountant and Certified Management Consultant, Mr. Stevens worked with Ernst & Young’s accounting and management consulting groups before joining Husky Injection Molding Systems, where he implemented an EVATM-based incentive compensation system. In 1995 he joined Deloitte Consulting, managing projects within both the Value Based Management and Change Leadership service lines.
He has held the position of CFO with both the internet retailer LuxurySquare.com, and with XStream Software Inc., an e-learning software developer. Currently, Mr. Stevens is the CFO for several technology and biotech companies, leading financing initiatives and building the business infrastructure necessary for growth.
Mr. Stevens has been a member of the board of HireTopTalent Inc, a web-based resource for displaced technology workers worldwide, and Network Planning Systems, an Ottawa software company.

FLANIGAN, Sean, LLB
General Counsel

Sean Flanigan joined Technology Transfer and Business Enterprise in July 2002.  Originally hired as the Assistant Director (Contracts) he has been the Assistant Director (Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer) since October of 2002.   Prior to joining the University Mr. Flanigan was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Island Critical Care Corporation (ICCC), a development stage U.S. public company that designed and manufactured a leading edge pulse oximeter.  
Before joining ICCC in 2000 Mr. Flanigan served as Vice President and General Counsel of Canshop.com, an online retailer and between 1993 and 1999 Mr. Flanigan was a partner in the Ottawa law firm of Tavel & Flanigan.  Mr. Flanigan received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1991 and has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since his call in 1993.  Prior to studying law, Mr. Flanigan received his BA (Political Science/Economics) from Carelton University in 1987.
